Little Roy was born by the name Earl Rowe in Kingston Jamaica, he started his music career at the age of 12 in 1965. Little Roy, first recording was right in the border line between the transitions of genres between Ska and Rock Steady. In 1969 he made one of the first ever recordings of a ‘Rasta’ song, with the tune: ‘Bongo Nayah’, that later on in history had become a household chant, almost like a folk song. He recorded songs that greats of the likes of Dennis Brown and the Heptones had recorded backing vocals for him, in the song ‘Righteous Man’ in 1971.
Tunes like ‘Tribal war’, became classics that many artists followed and made covers, people like John Holt, George Nooks and more. Roy is regarded as a highly rated singer songwriter amongst the Reggae fraternity, somewhat of a hidden gem outside the genre.
Songs like ‘Prophecy’ had become the first song on the eternal ‘Taxi’ Riddim that turned out to be one one the most celebrated riddims in history. In 2011 he made a project called ‘Battle for Seattle’ that presented unique Reggae cover versions to ‘Nirvana’. Little Roys tunes through the years turned out to be ‘Holy grails’ for collectors and are considered rare and sought after.
Little Roy will be performing in Israel for the first time ever, backed by ‘The Young Israelites’, a fresh young band that just returned from a successful show at the world famous Rottotom Reggae festival, and were received in admiration. Veteran Radio DJ David Rodigan has their tunes played on rotation, and they are being considered the future of Rock Steady Reggae.
A combination between Little Roy & The Young Israelites is heart rendering. Seeing the Roots and the future generation sharing the stage.
