Komardin is a band that plays ancient Arabic classical music.
From in-depth research, she gives the music a modern tone that corresponds with the aesthetics of contemporary jazz, and weaves new layers and meanings into the music. The repertoire includes works by Sheikh Said Darwish, Darwish Al-Hariri, Sultan Abdel-Aziz, Muhammad Othman, Omar Albatash and more.
In a focused way, the ensemble revives in its unique way complex works from an old vocal genre of classical Arabic music called Moashach (plural of Moashaht), mostly from Egypt and Syria of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The stylistic combination, together with the unconventional instrumentation and the virtuoso abilities of the band members create a new and immersive sound that has never been heard before.
